GBIC in 6509 and GBIC for 7206/ASR 1002

Hello,

We have a 6509 Sup2 at our ISP edge with fiber connection to ISP. I am planning on replacing the 6509 either with 7206VXR-GE2 or ASR 1002.

How do I find out what GBIC is installed on my Sup2 right now where Fiber cable is connected?

What GBIC/SFP will be compatible for this on 7206VXR or ASR1002?

If I use SFP do I need to change the cable connector?

Thank you.

Hii,

To find out which type of GBIC connector is present in your SUP2 right now, you can issue:-

show inventory

show int x/y trasceiver detail

Also, once you know the model of GBIC , try to lookup CCO and find compatiblity matrix for 7200 hw and sw and you will be all set..!

Hello Vijaya,

Thanks for your response. Show int x/y transceiver de is not available on my 6509 switch. And when I do show inventory I get below output:

sh inventory

Hi,

They are different.  You can not use the GBIC from your sup 2 and put it in an ASR.  Sup 2 uses regular GBIC with SC type connector and ASR uses SFP with LC type connector. So, you need to get 1Gig SFP for your ASR.
