Help with C892SFP Upgrade Path

I have to upgrade an C892SFP-K9. Current version is 15.3(3)M6 with ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 15.2(3r)XC, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1).

Will I be able to upgrade directly to 15.8.3(M9)? Do I have to watchout for anything specific? I am not really familiar with this model - Only ISR1100 and ISR4400.

I have tried looking into the documentation, but can't really find the answer.

Thanks in advance.

I won't be able to answer that and I suspect TAC won't be able to either.

I would recommend upgrading a unit that is on your desk.  Make sure a console cable is recording everything so we are able to determine what is going on.

Even if does not say so, I would not consider the Release Notes anything close to "truthful" in any way, shape or form.  Cisco likes to hide ROMMON information and ROMMON files from the public just for fun.

Hi Leo,

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, I won’t have access to a unit on my desk, as I’ll be upgrading the router remotely for the customer. Using a console cable likely won’t be an option either.

I noticed that Cisco’s software download page doesn’t offer rommon images as standalone downloads on the C892FSP model, so I assume upgrading from version 15.3.3 to 15.8.3 should be possible.

That said, I’ve been a bit cautious after encountering issues upgrading an ISR 1100 from 16.9.x to 17.12.x (Which we talked about in another topic)

That does not mean anything.  I have witnessed several IOS files that are incorrectly filed in different sections in the past.

If this router is a customer's, raise a TAC Case.  This will be your only excuse if the router bricks itself or goes into a boot-crash-loop.
