To anyone, is this the correct procedure to copy the current Cisco router configuration file to the external USB flash drive.

  1. Connect my laptop to the Cisco 891 router using a straight Ethernet cable and plug the USB Flash drive into my laptop.
  2. Use the program called Putty to login into the 891 Router.
  3. Login to the Router
  4. Cisco891#ena
  5. Cisco891#copy running-config usbflash:usbflash0 (I believe the running-config is the filename of the configuration file on the router and usbflash0 is just a file name I can choose from)
  6. In case if my current router configuration file get corrupted, is this the way to copy it back to the router.
  7. Plug my USB Flash drive into the Cisco 891 USB port.
  8. Login to the router.
  9. Cisco891#dir flash
  10. Cisco891#copy flash:usbflash0
  11. is there another command after this to make the router initialize the configuration file I uploaded?

Using the Cisco CLI is new to me so bear with me on this.

Thank you

Hi,

This link talks about rommon recovery but it also covers the CLI commands:

http://www-tss.cisco.com/eservice/common/software/usbflashdrive_recover_upgrade_ios.html

I hope it will help.

Warm Regards,
