Hi,
How can we find out, at which switch and switch port does the particular pc/user is connected. I have the ip address of the pc/user. We have all Cisco IOS switches(i.e. 6509, 4507, 4503,2960,3550 etc). Can it be done by just single command or so.
Suppose, if we have around 200 switches. Then how can we find out.
Would appreciate any body's help on this. Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards
Dipak

Hello
From the core switch
This command will find the mac-address of the host
Ping x.x.x.x
Sh ip arp | in x.x.x.x ( IP address of host)
Then the below command will so either identify the port the host it is connected to or the port/trunk it originating from(possible a interconnect port to another switch and from this you can do the same again on that switch(s) and trace to the actual location of the host
Sh mac-address address xxxx.xxxx.xxxx

As a clarification, you need to ping from a device with an "interface" on that subnet to obtain the destination host's MAC.
PS:
If you're fortunate enough to have Cisco equipment to support it, there's also a L2 traceroute - e.g.: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/l2trace.html
