Hi!
This process is for PXM1 and is quite complicated. The safest way is to open a TAC service request so a TAC engineer can assist you. Also, he can provide you a a fresh copy of the userPassword.dat. The file that stores all the passwords on the MGX. Also, it will be better to back up first the node configuration just to make sure. It is more of a password reset rather than a password recovery because passwords will be deleted and return to default.
Here is the procedure:
1. Access the standby PXM1 card via console. Run hyperterm. (Do this on the active if standby is not available)
2. Physically reinsert the standby card. At the VxWorks banner, press enter until the -> prompt appears. You must copy then paste the ffg. command line before the card fully boots:
rm "DB/cntp:authen/v1_1_0/userPassword.dat"
Note: This command line deletes the userPassword.dat file from the PXM1 hard drive.
3. Remove the active PXM1 card to make the standby active. You can now login on the active PXM1 using the default Cisco Logins. (Basically, for boxes that has no redundant controller card, upon boot up, you can readily login using the default logins).
4. Verify the LAN ip address of the MGX, connect the LAPTOP via LAN of active PXM1 card and copy the new userPassword.dat on the PXM1 hard drive either bia ftp or tftp. The file should fall on the "C:/" directory.
5. Copy the userPassword.dat file to its correct location using this command line.
cp userPassword.dat DB/cntp:authen/v1_1_0/userPassword.dat
6. Change to the desired sets of Logins then reset the standby controller card so it will be updated.
Again, please ask assistance from a TAC engineer.
Hope this helps!Ü
Regards,
Albert
