I have a 3560 switch 48 ports ios version 12.2
(35)SE5
I want to run two data vlans on the same port. Currently the port is in access mode and set to vlan30 I want to add vlan 40
I wanted to use multi mode, on this switch not an option
but private-vlan is, ? what version of ios do I need to run the multi mode or can I do the same thing with private-vlan
?

Hi,
multimode is for older platforms such as 3500xl or 2900xl and private vlans are a security feature.
Can you tell us more about what you want to do?
Regards.

Yes, I have two 1100 access points on VLAN30 and they run the inside corporate network access. I want to use these ap, I created another vlan40 to provide a wireless guest access, the ports on the switch are set to switchport access mode and I wanted to run both vlan 30 and vlan 40 via those ports also so I do not have to buy 2 more wap's.

You cannot have more than one access vlan on single port, because that would mean in practice that you are merging the vlan
If you want to do that, on the router or L3 port, add a secondary address, and merge the VLANs.
However thta is a bad practice, and should not be done.

thank you , that is what I thought, I will buy two more waps and put them in separate ports as I do not want to merge the vlan

Can you not simply make the connection between the APs and the switch trunk ports and then each port can carry the traffic for both vlans ?

Absolutely, Regina just take the time to read a little about the AP features as they can do that and more, then there is a Wireless forum for further discussion.
