HSRP

Scenario:

Two routers are in hsrp standby 1 group. Both the routers are having the default hsrp priority(100) and preempt is enabled in both the routers. I'll restart both the routers. which router will acquire the active state after the restart and how/why?

One more Scenario:

R1(10.0.0.1) and R2(10.0.0.2). Both are in standby group 1with default priority(100) and preempt is not enabled. R1 is in the active state since it came up first. 

If I enable preempt now on both routers. Does R2 take over R1?

Since R1 and R2 have the same priority, R2 will only become active if R1 becomes unavailable.

In that case R2 will only take over and be the active peer as/when R1 interface goes down irrespective of the the higher ip address with/without preempt being enabled

Now lets say R2 is the active peer however R1 has a higher hrsp priority but in a down state;

1) when R1 comes up with a higher hrsp priority without preempt  it will not take over as active peer
2) when R1 comes up with a higher hrsp priority with preempt it WILL take over as active peer
