I need some help

boywiz

I have inherited a CISCO 2811 Router because the company went bust.

The IT administrator that was there decided to stuff them by putting No Password recovery on the box.

As i do not need the configuration i thought factory reset because I wanted to use it to get back on the CCNE track in my personal study.

i thought it would be a good intercept as i am fairly good with the IOS and can navigate my way around the basisc with out the Web wizards.

however on this box i am unable to break in the boot sequence to for the normally style reset as documented.

Has any one had this issue and resolved it?

Is there a way to forcefully clear the nvram? or forcefully upgrade the ROMMON to a version that will accept the documented break sequence.

Thanks

Maurice

Hi Maurice,

you can refer to the following doc:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-2407

Basically, you give the break sequence at bootup, and you will be prompted for this:

PASSWORD RECOVERY IS DISABLED.
Do you want to reset the router to factory default
configuration and proceed [y/n] ? y
Reset router configuration to factory default.

It also includes a link to key combinations for break sequence.

Let me know if this helps

Marco

Hi Marco,

Thanks for the reply but I have tried this already there is an issue with some of the 2800 routers that the decompression of the image takes longer than the time for the system to realise that a break signal has been sent.

so I am not sure how I get the route to realise that the is a break,

I have tried Hyperterminal, vanguard, and Putty, I have tried mapping keys and changing key stoke delays, but still no go. I know my serial port works because I have performed the action on a switch as well.

Number 5, need input???????

Thanks

Mo

Hi Maurice,

OK, it seems that as additional security feature, the break sequence must be insert at a specific moment, when you see this:

See below:

Router#reload
Proceed with reload? [confirm]y

Cheers Marco, i will give that a try when i get home.

Thanks again

Mo

Hi Marco,

Sorry that did not work, either my is not sending or i am too slow, i tried Secure RT and Hyerterminal.

Any more ideas.

Mo

You're one lucky guy Maurice.  Why?  Because you have an ISR router.  Power down the router and EJECT the CF before powering on the router.

leolaohoo, i thought

of that one as well but all the system does is loop with the following.

System Bootstrap, Version 12.4(13r)T, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Mo

had the exact same issue.

refer to this link:

http://www.mail-archive.com/ccie_voice@onlinestudylist.com/msg24395.html

AND....

make sure you use a real serial port, not USB emulated.
