Hi Here is a question. We use the below commands in a router (H1) to simulate a host to join a multicast group. The question is how to setup a real host, for example, Windows PC, to join the multicast group? Or just enter ip address 239.1.1.1? thanks

H1(config)#interface GigabitEthernet 0/1

H1(config-if)#ip igmp version 1

H1(config-if)#ip igmp join-group 239.1.1.1

Hi @interfacedy ,

It depends on the multicast application. For multicast streaming, you can use VLC, which is a free media player that you can install on a variety of platforms and you can use to receive multicast streams.

Hi @interfacedy ,

I do not know if there are ways you can do it using native Windows tool, but I have done it several times in the past using VLC.

@Harold Ritter Thanks for your reply. so it means Windows 8, or 10 cannot receive the multicast stream directly, for example, entering ip address in url in windows 8 or 10 cannot received the multicast stream. We have to install VLC to receive the multicast stream. Is this correct?
