improving dsl atm stability

Hi,

We have several 877 routers across a few cities and experience infrequent 'drop-out's which are typically characterised by log entries like the example below.

Our biggest problem is that there is a 60-90 second hard-down period rather than just a 1-2 second 'blip' ... and TCP etc. don't cope well with an outage of this duration.

In general the SnR etc. on the links is good and these occurances are quite rare but when they happen it can be very alarming for users and transactions can fail.

Can anyone guide me any configuration guidance (prefereable acheivable at the CPE rather than the DSLAM end) to help:

1. reduce the outage duration... can the interface be instructed to be less sensitive to temporary line noise and just 'suck it up' rather than resynching?

2. improve the stability of the line... perhaps at the cost of a reduced speed?

3. improve logging of the root cause of the interface going 'down'?

Many thanks in advance & Merry Christmas!

Are you running latest ADSL firmware ?

new 877:

Init FW:         init_AMR-3.0.014_no_bist.bin
Operation FW:    AMR-3.0.014.bin

is this up to date?

No, it is not.

If you have a support contract, go to 877 download area.

If you don't, go to ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/access/800
