inconsistency in BGP "advertised-routes" and "prefixes current"

Hi all

On some of our ASBR machines (6509 with Sup720/MSFC3) I have strange BGP behaviour:

Issuing

sh ip bgp neighbors A.B.C.D

yields the information that I am not sending any prefixes:

[...]

                                 Sent       Rcvd
  Prefix activity:               ----       ----
    Prefixes Current:               0      25403
    Prefixes Total:               716      54599
    Implicit Withdraw:            269       6375
    Explicit Withdraw:            214      22821
    Used as bestpath:             n/a          0
    Used as multipath:            n/a          0
[...]

Nevertheless my BGP peer is receiving my prefixes and the command

sh ip bgp neighbors A.B.C.D advertised-routes

lists all my sent prefixes correctly and gives the total

Total number of prefixes 233

We have already cleared the session (not only soft) but the "prefixes current" still says "0 sent".

This problem has already been anounced in

https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/827518#827518

but unfortunately without any solution.

I am afraid that something is wrong with the BGP processes on the affected machines generally...

Any suggestions welcome.

Grischa

Hi,

You might hit CSCsg99772.

Under "sh ip bgp sum" the "sent counter" is shown as "0" eventhough Router is advertising routes and once they do "sh ip bgp neighbors 10.207.23.165 advertised-routes" then Router shows advertised routes.

Symptom:

It seems to be cosmetic since eventhough "Sent Counter" is shown as "0" there are no issues with BGP and everything seems to be working fine.

Workaround:

NONE.

Regards,

Lei Tian
