Installing Cisco Configuration Professional

I'm having a bit of a bother with my attempts to install and run Cisco Configuration Professional software.  From the cisco support website, the install instructions indicate a link to download the software for CCP.  -> http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_configuration_professional/guides/CiscoCPqsg.html#wp127222

The link brings up a dialog to download the software, and I've done this a few times.  The remaining instructions indicate that this program is to be installed on my local PC.  The unfortunate thing, is that the downloaded software is not an executable file.. It's a .zip file:

Cisco-config-pro-k9-pkg-N_N-ln.zip

Of course, I've unzipped the file, and the files contained are

ccpExpress_ap_express-security.shtml.gz    and

ccpexpressAdmin27.tar

And if you delve a bit deeper, these files contain HTML structure.  I still don't see an executable file to 'install' this program.

Thinking that these files are meant to run on a router and accessed thru a browser, I've tftp'd them to my routers flash.

Not much luck with the files from the flash either. (using the router as a web server and accessing the router with a browser).

Any ideas?  Can I tell Cisco that their instructions on this process is bunk?

Thanks for your help..

CCP can be downloaded from

http://software.cisco.com/download/type.html?mdfid=281795035&flowid=5160

You need to create a Cisco login for this but I don't think there are any restrictrions to downloading the software after that.

I believe the latest full version for installation on a PC is 2.6, the express version is for installation on a router.

Cary,

The package you downloaded was the one for the router. You gotta go back and get this one:

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=281795035&softwareid=282159854&release=2.7&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Get the 2.6 version, that is the package you will need to load on your computer.

What an obscure way to download software. All the version numbers folders mainly contain firmware files. But by trial and error you will eventually find one which contains the software.

As of today the current version is 2.8 but tomorrow it may change. So 2.8 can be downloaded here:-
