Hello friends,
I procured one Cisco 2612 Router with 16 MB flash. The router was with 12.1 IOS. I tried to upgrade the ios to 12.3 but I am getting the following error.
Please refer the attached output.

Hi,
1: Are you able to load the 12.0 IOS that was present in the router.if yes and there is no error then maybe the flash is bad as the IOS version 12.3 will take more space then 12.1
2: try to boot the router with the 12.3 IOS via a TFTP server to check if it is a IOS problem.
If both the above are working then it is a flash problem
thanks

Hi Atul,
are you getting any specific error after that ? Without the proper error its very hard to detemine what could be the real cause of it.
Did you check the mromry and flash reqirement for the IOS to be upload on ur router. I have found out a TAC case, see if that can help you.

Hi Amit,
Cisco 2612 Router is with 16 MB FLASH AND 40 MB DRAM.
Nope! I am not getting any error after that. It just again going in ROMMON mode.
I tried with boot flash: IOS IMAGE still again it's following same process and entering in ROMMON mode.
Thanks

ok so then there can be only these problems
from the error that is outputted it is 99% flash problem the memory is currupt above the 12.1 file size and thus when the file is being written in this memory location the router is encountering an error.
Or the IOS itself may be currutp , To confirm that the IOS is not currupt U can boot the router via a TFTP server with 12.3. if your router boots that it means that your flash is bad.

Atul,
I've experienced the same problem trying to load 13.3(13a) into flash under ROMMON and using XModem-1k. What I had to do was drop to 12.2(22) under ROMMON (as the flash had been erased and the router wouldn't boot) and use TFTP to load the 12.3(13a) after I got the router up and running under 12.22.
I can confirm that on a good 16Mb Flash, 12.3(13a) will fit. No much room left over, so you will not be able to store much else.

Atul,
It's quite simple. It appears from your original post that you have been using ROMMON to load flash via the console port. Repeat that processes using whatever protocol you have choosen (I used XMoodem-1K as selected in my terminal program). Once loaded, boot the router using the older code. You could use 12.1 which you say you have successfully loaded in the past. Config the Ethernet port so you can connect to the network your PC host is on. Load up and configure a TFTP client on the PC and perform a standard COPY TFTP: FLASH: command on the router to load the new code.
Like I said, 12.3(13a) Enterprise does fit on the 16MB in 2600 series routers (I'v load it on 2610's, 12's & 21's).
System flash directory:
File Length Name/status
1 15957140 c2600-j1s3-mz.123-13a.bin
[15957204 bytes used, 295720 available, 16252924 total]
16384K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)
Hope this helps.

Dear Sir,
I have tried the same with C2600-ik9o3s3-mz.123-3a.bin.
Is it possible for you to provide me c2600-j1s3-mz.123-13a.bin..

Atul,
I cannot provide you with a copy of c2600-j1s3-mz.123-13a.bin. This software is not in the public area of the Cisco site and therefore I am restricted from providing it to you. Sorry.
I was not able to get the 12.3(13a) version of the IDS/FW/DES3 software to fit either (I'm assuming the 123-3a is a typo?). So I had to drop to 12.2(29) for my requirements.
I did not try to use TFTPDNLD in ROMMON with a crossover cable. Might work as well.

Hi Atul,
Here's a little suggestion to ease your problems:-
1- Try upgrading the IOS via "cross-over-cable" directy to the router's FE port via a TFTP client.
Let me know if you need further assistance on this.
regards.
