IP Address Management Best Practices for Multi-Site Networks

elite2010
Level 3
Level 3

Hi,

10.0.0.0/11
Site 1:
- 10.0.0.0/12
- Divided further into /16: 10.0.0.0/16, 10.0.1.0/16
- The first /16 is dedicated for management.
- Starting from the second /16 for data: 10.1.0.0/16
- Switch 1 VLAN 10: 10.1.0.0/24
- Switch 2 VLAN 10: 10.1.1.0/24
- Switch 3 VLAN 10: 10.1.2.0/24
- Switch 1 VLAN 20: 10.2.0.0/24
- Switch 2 VLAN 20: 10.2.1.0/24
- Switch 3 VLAN 20: 10.2.2.0/24
- 10.0.0.0/24: Used for switches' loopback addresses and in-band management.
- Switch-1: 10.0.0.1/32
- Switch-2: 10.0.0.2/32
- Addresses advertised in OSPF.
Site 2:
- 10.16.0.0/12
- 10.16.0.0/24: Used for switches' loopback addresses and in-band management.
- Switch-1: 10.0.1.1/32
- Switch-2: 10.0.1.2/32
- Addresses advertised in OSPF.
Site 1 is assigned 10.0.0.0/12.
Site 2 is assigned 10.16.0.0/12.
My question is, would it be better to use 10.16.0.0 in Site 2 instead of continuing from the subnet 10.0.0.0/16?
I understand that as long as there's no overlap, it should be okay. However, I'm seeking expert opinions on best practices from those who manage multiple sites.
The goal is better IP address management.
I truly value the time of all those reading and responding.

Thanks

Both works - If you do not need that much IP address space in site 1 - subnet same one use it (fi you think it grow bigger then use diferent subnet in site 2)

any way these are RF1918 you can use as many as you like to site 1 and site 2
