This is not unusual with dialup networks. You configure the dialer interface to use PPP and to negotiate and learn an IP address from the ISP. When the connection is established and negotiation is done the ISP assignes an address (with /32 prefix length) on the connection and assign a gateway address the same as the interface address. The client now recognizes that any request for a remote network access should be forwarded to the gateway interface, so it is sent to the dialer interface and is forwarded to the ISP on the other end of the PPP connection.
