iperf3 measure speed for internet

Hi We would like to know the internet speed from our site. I am trying to use iperf3. but it looks like it needs to install iperf3 at two site, client and server site. it is inconvenient for us to install it at server site. Usually we just use some application such as speedtest.net etc, which do not need to install any application. so with iperf3, do we have to install it at server site? Do we have other way to test internet speed? Thank you

If you only want to run this on windows I would recommend using jperf.
Remember start it by the .bat file, open up in the firewall on you server and have java installed.

Why is it hard to set up a server?  Pretty simple actually.  You can do it on a windows or Linux PC.  There are some public servers listed on the iperf site, but at that point you're not on just your network anymore.  So you trying to test your LAN only or your internet connection?

No iPerf/jPerf cannot do that.

Have a look at MTR (my traceroute) - http://winmtr.net/

Some of the public Internet test suites will also display RTT to their test server.

"Do we have other way to test internet speed?"

You could also try other Internet speed test sites such as:
speedtest.net
www.bandwidthplace.com
openspeedtest.com
speedof.me
testmy.net

it is very good link!

speedtest.net etc is very convenient for us to test since we do not need to install it at all.

Unlike speedtest.net, iperf need to be installed at two site workstations. Do we have one application which only needs to be installed at one site workstation instead of two workstation? Thank you

No.  You need client and server.  What is the issue with setting up a client and server?

I only want to measure internet speed to my network. i can easily find a PC as client, but it is difficult to find the remote server for the measure. Is there a public server for this purpose?

No. The "public" sites already have a "server" setup. You're just installing/using a client of it.

All are very good reply. One more thing, if we choose different server to test, we will get different internet speed. That is because the distance and server are different. So we need to know how long it will take for traffic to reach each of router hop. iperf or jperf can do that? Thanks

No iPerf/jPerf cannot do that.

Can you list it? Thanks
