IPv6 Deployment

Hi All,

I would like to know whether IPv6 deployment can be carried out with Cisco's 6PE architecture. Is it standardized and started working fine? Initially i thought of implementing it with GRE (ipv6ipv4) tunnels.

Any help is appreciated.

yes arun , it has already been started with the cisco ios. You can use the 6VPE architecture to receive the customers vrf IPv6 routes.

6PE has indeed been deployed by some very large SPs around the world. It is documented by RFC3107, which doesn't only cover IPv6.

Thanks for the response.

i read that there is no concept of network ip and broadcast ip in per subnet (eventually we were wasting 2 ip's per subnet) but in ipv6 there is no concept of wasting ip addresses like this.. so for a point to point connectin can i allcoate an ip address X:X:X:X:X::X/127.. Is it allowable to assign the ipaddresses like that.. because mostly im seeing the prefix allocated is of /64..

even in ipv6 , your point to pint ip address should not be of same subnet. It works only on link local address. If you are using OSPF then site local and global local addreses are required.
