have 2 cisco routers. One cisco 770 and one cisco 760. I want to use
a ISDN connection between the two. but with my current confirguration
only the cisco 760 can open the connection. When the cisco 770 tries to
open te connection he says no password found.
current config of the cisco 770 (t770):
set system t770
set multidest on
set ppp auth in chap
set ppp secret host
cd lan
set ip address 172.24.28.245
set ip netmask 255.255.252.0
set ip routing on
set ip rip update periodic
set user r760
set ppp auth out chap
set ppp secret client
set bridging off
set ip address 10.10.10.1
set ip netmask 255.255.255.0
set ip routing on
set ip rip update demand
set ip route destination 0.0.0.0 gateway 10.10.10.2
set ip rip version 1
set 1 number 051555555
set timeout 360
set active
reboot
current config cisco 760 (r760):
set system r760
set multidestination on
cd LAN
set ip address 192.168.1.1
set ip netmask 255.255.255.0
set ip routing on
set ip rip update periodic
set user t770
set ppp password client
set ppp secret client
set ip address 10.10.10.2
set ip netmask 255.255.255.0 set ip routing on
set ip rip update demand
set ip route destination 0.0.0.0/0 gateway 10.10.10.1
set number 051444444
set timeout 360
set active
reboot
everywhere i set a password i use the same password.
i also compared the two config and made one with all the command in the
2 above config both that wasn't any help
with the above config r760 can open connection to t770, but t770 can
not open the connection to r760 if it's not already active. always
receive the error 'no password found' and then he disconnects.
does anyone know why that happens?
kindest regards,
Tom

I reviewed your configuration it seems to be fine expect I miss the line "set ppp password client" on your r770 router. Review your r770 config and try again!

I see what you mean. i don't set the password on r770, only on the user setting.. i'l try to correct it and see if it works

I added the password but without success. To make sure the password is set i have set each password i could to the same password. in this example i used cisco.
these are my 2 configs then:
R760:
set system r760
set multidestination on
set ppp password host
cisco
cisco
set ppp secret host
cisco
cisco
cd LAN
set ip address 192.168.1.1
set ip netmask 255.255.255.0
set ip routing on
set ip rip update periodic
set user t770
set ppp password client
cisco
cisco
set ppp secret client
cisco
cisco
set ip address 10.10.10.2
set ip netmask 255.255.255.0
set ip routing on
set ip rip update demand
set ip route destination 0.0.0.0/0 gateway 10.10.10.1
set ip rip version 1
set 1 number 55555555
set timeout 20
set active
reboot
T770:
set system t770
set multidest on
set ppp auth in chap
set ppp password host
cisco
cisco
set ppp secret host
cisco
cisco
cd lan
set ip address 172.24.28.245
set ip netmask 255.255.252.0
set ip routing on
set ip rip update periodic
set user r760
set ppp auth out chap
set ppp password client
cisco
cisco
set ppp secret client
cisco
cisco
set bridging off
set ip address 10.10.10.1
set ip netmask 255.255.255.0
set ip routing on
set ip rip update demand
set ip route destination 0.0.0.0 gateway 10.10.10.2
set ip rip version 1
set 1 number 44444444
set timeout 20
set active
reboot
again it works to ping from R760 to T770:
r760> ping 10.10.10.1
Start sending: 01/01/1995 00:04:31 L05 0 555555555 Outgoing Call Initiate
d
r760> 01/01/1995 00:04:33 L08 1 55555555 Call Connected
r760> 01/01/1995 00:04:33 Connection 2 Add Link 1 Channel 1
r760> round trip time is 3080 msec.
but a ping from t770 to r760 does not initiate the call (that ping only works if r760 allready initiated the call):
t770> ping 10.10.10.2
Start sending: 01/01/1995 00:01:14 L05 0 444444444 Outgoing Call Initiate
d
t770> 01/01/1995 00:01:15 L08 1 444444444 Call Connected
t770> 01/01/1995 00:01:15 L60 1 Password Not Found
t770> 01/01/1995 00:01:16 L13 1 Disconnecting Call
t770> 01/01/1995 00:01:16 L27 1 Disconnected
i don't know what to do more. I think all passwords are set correctly.
Is there someone who has an idea? maybe it's just the difference between the types of routers.
anyone?
thanks.

I still haven't found the solution... Anyone who has a clou?
otherwise i'll work with this configuration and make sure the r760 initialises th connection.
