Limiting Throughput

Greetings Experts!

I have a lab that we are trying to configure in such a way that it simulates our real world setup.  We have many individual nodes that are connected to us via satellite and thus, have very slow connections.  I would like to know if there is a way to simulate a slow connection in our lab.  Each node has a lan that connects it switch to another switch, which connects to a router on the satellite uplink.  I would like to be able to slow all incoming and out-going traffic at this router to 256kb/sec.  This would allow my developers to see their software on a real-world connection.

You could just use rate limiting. Here is a document on configuring a committed access rate.

To simulate satellite, you'll also want to mimic the high latency, not just the low bandwidth.

What I would recommend is a line impairment box.  Believe if you search the Internet, you may find some free software (to run on a PC) that can emulate different path issues.
