Loopbacks for Mgmt of devices?

Would it be a better to use loopback interfaces to reach devices for management or use for management traffic of devices?

Or use ?

Hi CiscoBlueBelt,

Yes, it will be good to use loopback interface for management.

But I would recommend using Control Plane Policing(CPP) feature along with loopback.

Okay.

I configured loopbacks on a switch that connects directly to a router. All SVIs on the switch and sub-interfaces on the router are pingable, except for my loopbacks. Happen to know what I am missing to make the loopbacks reachable?

Have you defined the route at the router for this loopback IP towards switch? and the switch must have the router as a default-gateway.

Spooster IT Services Team

Is your switch L2 or L3? If L2, unsure you can easily reach the loopback, unless perhaps route to that loopback using a SVI as a next hop (and as noted by Spooster, you'll need a default-gateway defined on the switch). If L3, you add the loopback to your routing topology.

If the device is L3, and you have multiple L3 interfaces on it, then a routable loopback on is often a good practice.
