Getting this message on the console of a 7204 router. Is there any way to reload without powering off? If so, how? Also, what is causing this issue? Thanks in advance.

which IOS version are you running ? Could be a bug, but either way, unfortunately the only way to resolve these memory leaks is a reboot. What is the uptime of the router (sh ver) ?

Hello @MErskine ,

if even console access is not possible your only option is to power off the C7204 to reload it.

The issue is caused by a software defect in a process that causing memory leakage has consumed all the available memory.

You need to monitor avaialble memory on the device.

I have console access but cannot do anything. All I get it the low memory error when I press enter.

yes I see you have console access but the router is so short of memory to be unable to allocate it to manage the console connection this is the meaning of the message and when this happened to me I had to power cycle the device.

I don't see any other option to reload it at this point.

Once that message appears, it is usually a sign that the appliance is no longer "manageable" or non-recoverable.  

In every instance, the only workaround is to reboot the appliance.  For a permanent fix, upgrade the firmware.

A 7200VXR is a very critical router and running a "T" train IOS is NOT recommended.  Double-jeopardy:  Not only is the router running a "T" train firmware but a "release 0".  An "M" train is more recommended.

Strongly recommend you think about getting the firmware upgraded.

What does the "T" and "M" stand for? Where can I find these downloads so I can update this?

Cisco calls the "T" train as "technology".  People who got badly burnt by this call it the "terrible".   Use "T" train releases with extreme caution.

"M" train is called "Maintenance" and it is alot more "stable" and recommended for long-term use.

That is normal.  It is not a Cisco "thingy" -- This is an industry-wide practice.
