LRE is end of life - what is the replacement ??

Hi Guys,

We have a setup with 100 or more LRE switches (2950) and an equal amount of 575/585 CPE's .. and now Cisco has announced the EOL of the LRE products.

I am looking ideas for a replacement - since we cannot expect an EOL product to last forever :-)

Any input are very welcome.

how bout 2960s? or even 3560s?

Thanks - but no I'm not on the BofA account.

The problem is that neither the 2960 or 3560 comes with LRE ports - and that is what we need.

It seems that Cisco has decided to phase out the LRE concept entirely - but offers no replacement technology.

Hi Jakob,

I facing the same issue here. My customer site also deploys > 20 LRE.

Just to side track a bit, I using this LRE to connect to my IP phones. I often face a issue where some of the LRE ports will hang. Meaning the Phone is unable to register to my CM.

When I do a shut and no shut on the particular port, it still remains hang. only when I do a hard reset on the LRE switch then the port is up again.

Please advise if you face the same problem as above.

If Cisco is ending support for LRE, (which i have never used) other options are available, from both Zyxel, and SMC.

jakob, if you are experiencing ports hanging intermittenttly, we had a similar issue with Zyxel equipment. It took us quite a while and a few highly experienced telco engineers to figure out wht it was.

In short the bandwidth being produced by VDSL is directly proportional to the frequency used. i.e 15 Mbps bandwidth 5Mhz (incorrect but thereabouts)

We had a lot on EMI in the facility we rolled out to, so we found that by brining back the bandwidth on each VDSL/LRE port the frequency was reduced and therefore was less suceptable to noise and EMI.

Our ports stayed up full time. I suggest trying the above. I am sure it will Work for you.
