Memory issues

I am trying to upgrade my IOS on a 3550 switch.

The switch has 15MB of space total.

When I delete the current IOS it leaves only 8MB of space.

I need 10MB of space for the new image.

Where is this other space being taken up?

Can I do something to free up the space somewhere?

Stanley,

You have two IOS images on your switch. One is the .bin file, and the other is in the drwx directory. Use the "show boot" command and note down which ios is being used to boot the device. If it is the c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-22.EA1a, then just delete the c3550-ipbasek9-mz.122-25.SEB4.bin file. If the boot ios is the c3550-ipbasek9-mz.122-25.SEB4.bin, then use the command "delete /force /recursive flash:c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-22.EA1a". That should free up enough space to load the new IOS. After you load the new IOS, make sure you change the boot for the switch to the new IOS. Save the config and reload. After the reload, delete the old IOS file so you dont have this issue again in the future.
