Metric change in Totaly Stubby

Hi,

We have two Cisco routers and one Fortigate Firewall on a single broadcast domain running OSPF with Totally Stubby.

We found the metric of the routes originated by the Fortigate are seen in Cisco routers as with metric 101 as Type 2 LSA (intra-area) though the Fortigate FW is one hop away with Gigabit ethernet port. Will another vendor product affects the metric learned on Cisco routers.

Thanks in advance..

I do not have enough experience with Fortigate to say anything meaningful about their implementation of OSPF. But in general it is true that while the OSPF specification does discuss the metric used to choose the best path, it does not specify how the metric is to be calculated. The choice of calculation of metric is a detail to be worked out in the individual implementation of OSPF. So it is quite possible that different vendors may calculate metric in a way that is different from Cisco and advertise metrics that are different from what Cisco would have.
