Missing Features in Catalyst 3650

Hello,

we are currently testing a Cisco 3650-stack as l3-switch for small branch offices. It connects via OSPF (BFD enabled) to about 50 other branch offices - currently running 3845 integrated Services router through L2 provider network.

Everthing - including BFD -  was working fine since we upgraded licence level to ipservices (needed for vrf support). Now it is no longer possible to configure BFD on any of the ospf processes.

Can anyone confirm and possibly explain this behaviour?

Sounds odd for sure... Could you share the OS details, from and to, also i'd look to raise this with TAC if it is urgent requirement.

The 3650 Stack runs with IOS XE Version 03.07.01E

We've also tried other versions.

IOS XE 03.06.02aE
IOS XE 03.06.02
IOS XE 03.03.05SE

All with the same result. As soon as we activate "ip services" there is no possibility to configure bfd in ospf routing process:

ip base:

3650-stack#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
3650-stack(config)#router ospf 1
3650-stack(config-router)#bfd ?
  all-interfaces  Enable BFD on all interfaces

3650-stack(config-router)#bfd

ip services:

3845 integrates services router runs with IOS Version 15.1(4)M7.

Can you try enabling on the interface instead please?

e.g.

interface gi1/0/1

ip ospf bfd 

bfd interval X min_rx X multiplier X

this might be a work around for you if it does work, I'm not sure why you're not able to do that on the ospf process, I'd still raise it with Cisco TAC to find out why. Maybe if you go to ip services it's expected to be configured at interface level, that's my only guess :-/

'ip ospf bfd' is neither possible on vlan Interface nor on Interface gigabit:

Chris, my only other suggestion would be to contact Cisco TAC as I mentioned previously. Hopefully they will be able to assist. If you do come to a fix, please share it here.

OK. So i don't really have a fix but i was told that BFD is officially not supported on Catalyst 3650 / 3850 (although it's documented and runs with ip base licence).

I've checked this with Cisco TAC. No BFD support for 3650 and 3850 right now. However, this is planned and is in the road-map. May be available in the next 2-3 months.

Regarding some of the documentation that says otherwise, Cisco TAC also mentioned that those are wrong.
