Multicast on point to point link

Hi ,

We want to implement multicast on our network.We are going to use for video conferencing purpose. I am very new at Multicast and not have much idea about it. We are not running any routing protocol in our netwok.The multicast server is located at One of our office and it is connected with L3 switch. L3 and Core Switch are connected with E-3 link with tunnel. Router 1 and Router 2 are connected with P2P ILL links which are terminated at serial interface.The scenario of our network are mentioned below:

Multicast Server--->(L3 Switch)--->(Core Switch)--->(FWSM)--->(Router 1)---->(Router 2)--->(L2 Switch)--->(Multicast Client)

We have created a seprate vlan for multicast at L3 switch, enable multicast routing, enable sparse-dense mode at multicast vlan and joined multicast group. At core switch we have only enabled multicast routing. we are able to ping multicast server from L3 switch and Core Switch. When we are pinging from L3 switch, the reply is coming from vlan interface ip address (Reply to request 0 from 192.168.2.129, 1 ms).When we are pinging from Core Switch, then reply is coming from tunnel ip address. We have enable multicast routing, created separate vlan for connection to Router 1 and allowed IP at FWSM. We have enabled multicast routing, sparse-dense mode, created GRE tunnel on both the Routers. When we pinging from Router 1 then reply is coming from with fastinterface ip address which is connected to FWSM and from Router 2 reply is coming from GRE tunnel ip address. From multicast client we are able to ping multicast server. Multicast client are not able to establish multicast session with the server.

For traceroute, which ip address would be Source to trace route from, which ip address would be  Destination of route and Group to trace route via.

I am not able to understand or can't figure out  where i have configured wrong. Please help.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Regards

Hello,

You have one of two options:

1- Enable Multicast routing on the Whole path and Pim-Sparse-Dense Mode on the routed Interface , you also need to permit the Multicast server IP address through the FWSM to the clients.

2- Create a GRE tunnel between R2 and Core Switch and enable PIM Sparse-Dense on the Tunnel Interface.

The Multicast client and the routers needs to know the IP address of the Multicast server to join the source based tree.
