I have a NM-4A/S serial network module which I suspect is having problem on a Cisco 3640 router. Is there a way which I can test the async ports out without connecting to any other devices? The module info is as shown below.

Slot 3:
        Sync/Async Port adapter, 4 ports
        Port adapter is analyzed
        Port adapter insertion time unknown
        EEPROM contents at hardware discovery:
Hardware revision 1.0           Board revision E0
Serial number     15016776      Part number    800-01224-02
        FRU Part Number:  NM-4A/S=

Test history      0x0           RMA number     00-00-00
        EEPROM format version 1
        EEPROM contents (hex):
          0x00: 01 24 01 00 00 E5 23 48 50 04 C8 02 00 00 00 00
          0x10: 70 00 00 00 99 07 22 17 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry, but why do you think it's something wrong with this module? Did you connect some device there and it didn't work properly?

More information:

Then you can do: "show async status" , but without anything connected there will not help you too much. Another reason which I saw on different forum is bad insertion of the module. But this should generate some errors in logs.

Cheers,

Calin

The async port was working before. It was connected to a device. There's nothing wrong with the device. It worked with other port.

To access the device, I will have to "telnet " from a central router. I don't think it was due to bad module insertion since other async port is working.

"show async status" command produces the output below -
