Dear all,
I don't know in N5K, what is FCoE and Fabric exteneder port use for ?
N5K - FCoE port
(1) DoesFCoE port is a dedicated FCoE port to connect SAN server?
N5K - Fabric exteneder port
(1) Is it an interface to connect with UCS ?
(2) Does this Fabric exteneder port orignially is a 10G etherent port, but once we type below command, it will changed to fabric extender interface ?
(e.g. )
int ethernet 1/18
fex associate 118
switchport mode fex-fabric
regards,
benny

Hi there
Fcoe stand for fiber channel over Ethernet where the server storage fiber Channel communications get encapsulated into Ethernet frames and passed under the unified ethernt/fabric network no need for fiber channel link for storage and Ethernet for ip this is just in brief
The fabric extender is a concept used between n5k and n2k between ucs fabric interconnect and it's fabric extender io models
In both cases there is a parent switch that dose the control and switching processing example n5k and a remote Ethernet model for hosts connectivity example n2k
Like you have 6500with several switch models but here they are remote and communicate with parent switch through those fex 10G ports

Dear Marwanshawi,
How about if there are two N5K(s) connected via 2x10G port to form a VPC peer link. If third device N2K is connect to N5K.
Then what kinds of interface can be used? ( just normal 10G port, or use fibric exteneder port )?
regards,
Benny

Hi Benny
In the n5k you have the port all of them can be configured as 10g fex port type so you can use any port
While in the n2k it depends on the module some they have 2and some they have 4 10G to be configured for the fex
See the bellow link to a discussion we had about n5k withn2k you migHt find helpful too
