no BGP multipath w/ Verizon?

We have two Internet circuits w/ Verizon Business.

Before we signed up, they promised we'd be able to utilize both of them in active/active fashion.

After the circuits were turned up, they refused to turn on bgp multipath, citing some BS policy, so we're stuck w/ active/passive.

Has anyone heard of this?

Any workaround anyone can think of?

I recommend you using two service providers in this case, and you can load-balance as long as you want not having to deal with the provider.

If Verizon does not send the routes to you, there is nothing you can do.

Hi,

I guess it depends on the service you bought from the provider exactly.

ISPs sometimes are using confusing product names and you need to look into the product specification carefully.

So it's possibly you should have bought a slightly different service?

And will need to upgrade now and pay some higher money?

Hi,

Workaround: If you have a /18 subnet then advertise 2 * /19 subnets into the Internet.

Eg. 172.2x.0.0/18 is further divided into 172.2x.0.0/19 and 172.2x.32.0/19

Primary Ckt:

Advertise  172.2x.0.0/19

with LP = 700

Advertise 172.2x.0.0/18

with LP = 500

Secondary Ckt:

Advertise 172.2x.32.0/19

with LP = 700

Advertise 172.2x.0.0/18

with LP = 500

In this scenario, at Nomal circumstances, the traffic is equally load balanced.

if the primary link fails, the 1st part of subnet (/19) will be still reached viz Secondary Ckt as they have next available longest-match which is /18

if the secondary link fails, the 2nd part of the subnet (/19) will be still reached viz Primary Ckt as they have next available longest-match which is /18

I have a scenario here, inwhich I am connecting two different ISP. Is it possible to load balance traffic if I didn't own public ip pool but getting lan pools from ISP for each connection!!
