OSPF: Load balancing with unequal links over separate router

Hello everybody,

I have problem as below:

I have 2 sites which is connecting by 2 links (unequal, 1 link is 256K, other is 128k) over separate router per site (2800 series and 26xx). Now i need to configure loadbalancing this by using OSPF protocol.

My topo:

----LAN----Router28xx------128K--------router28xx----LAN

...........Router28xx------256K--------Router26xx

Is this topo correct ?

Does any one know how to do that ? (I dont want to use EIGRP protocol)

Thanks

Khanh

Hi Kahnh,

OSPF doesnot support unequal cost path load-balancing.For unequal cost path load-balancing you have to use IGRP,EIGRP. I think you can also you Multichassis MLPPP.

Thank Amit,

OK, let me try to find other solution or escalating the links to same BW.

I think there are some skills to do this.

Hi,

yes there are many tools! You can 'fool' your router making the routing decisions by manipulating the metric of the lowest-metric-route to the same value than the other route : load-balancing will then occur!

hi Khanh,

You can try the following :

on your ospf interfaces make the cost as the same and once it sees the equal cost it should do the load-balance. Try " ip ospf cost "same cost on all the interfaces and it should do that.

Or try making the badwidth same on the all the interfaces and it will do it for you.

Thank Amit,

Let me try with your recommendation.
