I have a query on OSPF protocol. My question is if area 0 in ospf network goes down what will be the impact of this on network.

Have a look at the OSPF design guide

If you have configured multiple areas lets say 0, 10 ,20.

All inter area traffic should pass through area "0" BACKBONE

Then your network simplifies like 10 -- 0 --20

So any traffic from area 10 destined for area 20 would be lost if are 0 was all down

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the revert. I am planning for creating a whole new network. Wherein i will have following sites 1) Primary site 2) DR 3) Client site A 4) Client site B 5) Client site C. All the sites will be connected to each other via P2P connectivity. My planning is to keep Area 0 at the primary site, Area 1 at Client site A, area 2 at Client site B and area 3 at Client site C. My question is shall i keep the DR site also in area 0 as if DC site is completely down in that case intera area routes will not get populated.

Please note : all the sites are connected with each other with P2P lines

Basically, to say it in another way, what Alex has already noted, other areas should still function, but they will all be partitioned, i.e. no area X <> area Y traffic.
