OSPF Routing Packet tracer not working.

Hello,
First time using the forum so please bare with me.

Im currently doing an assignment for my university, OSPF Routing. Ive not done routing before but the assignment is pretty clear on how it wants everything set up and what configurations to use (Such as IP, Subnet masks etc).

The network is made up of 4 routers conected via WAN. 1 Main router and 3 additional routers for each other site. The main router is connected to all 3 of the others but they are each only connected to the main router. Each router is connected to a switch and 2 computers.

 

The objective is to be able to connect computers over the different networks. The problem is that my computers are unable to ping. The IP route is showing OSPF is set up on all 4 routers and can read each network. Here is the IP route:

So far i have checked that all my network selections match up with each network's network IP, this includes the wildcard masks. I have also tried setting network to the interface IPs. One concern i do have is the physical set-up for the routers. Ive never connected serial ports and wasnt sure if the modules would affect anything but i doubt this is the issue. Unfortunately i lack the experience to identify what is likely a simple issue. Ive attached the file to this post for anyone willing to help and i thank everyone in advance.

Hello,

If you cannot change the default gateway IP on computer, change it on the router's Fa0/0 interface. Your computer's default gateway address must match with the router's Fa0/0 interface. Change your router's Fa0/0 interface IPs to match your computer's default gateway addresses. Then it should work!

Hello,

 

1) Can you ping your default gateway from your computer in each location?

2) Can your ping your first hop router's Serial Interface from your computer in each location?

3) Can you ping RouterA's Fa0/0 interface from Router HQ's Fa0/0 interface using source interface command?

 

Also,

Can you provide your configurations in txt format.

1) No i cannot ping my default gateway's

2) No i also cannot ping my serial interfaces

3) yes I can ping from fa0/0 on HQ to fa0/0 on Router A

 

The txt file i added has all 4 startup configs.

 

Im guessing ive set the gateway up wrong? im not familiar with how to set up network addresses but the questions you asked indicate thats whats wrong.

Seems that your OSPF configuration is working properly.

From HQ Perspective;
1) What is you computer's IP/MASK/Default Gateway? IP address must be in range 172.16.10.2-14, Mask 255.255.255.240, DGW: 172.16.10.1
2) Can computer ping its own IP?
3) Can you check that your switch learns MAC address of your Router and Computer? show mac address-table interface x/x
4) Is there any ARP entry on your router for computer? show ip arp x.x.x.x (computer ip)

1) The main computer's IP is 172.16.10.2, Mask is 255.255.255.240. Default gateway is 172.16.10.14, It is a criteria of the assignment that the default gateway is the last usable address so i cannot change this.

2) Yes it can

3) The switch appears to have only learnt the address for the router and not for the secondary port. As a side note Computer A can ping computer B on each network.

4) Yes there is an ARP entry for 172.16.10.1 & 172.16.10.2, Which is the router interfaces IP and the computers IP address respectively.

I looked at your project, the OSPF configuration is fine. The problem is simply that your PCs have the wrong default gateways. Make sure the default gateways on your PCs match the actual IP addresses of the respective FastEthernet interfaces, e.g.:

 

P-PC1 --> default gateway 172.16.10.49

P-PC2 --> default gateway 172.16.10.49
