Overlapping - different subnet mask on the same router?

Hi!

I have an overlapping problem.

Router 1 - on g0/0/0 has ip add 192.168.1.1/16 and on g0/0/1

I want to choose the

192.168.0.1/24 ip

add. Here is the overlap. It is possible to keep the /16 subnet mask? What is the solution?

Hi @rma123456789

 If your router supports VRF, it would be the only solution.  Put each interface in a different VRF.

Hello @rma123456789,

You say want to choose the

192.168.0.1/24 ip add

This is a mandatory choice?

/16 in a router interface is not common. /30 for interco between routers are better choice.

Best regards

It is mandatory. Maybe If I use NAT it will works (to keep the /16 subnet mask)?

@rma123456789,

NAT is apply to flow in ingress or/and egress to interface(s).

Here you want to configure static IP address on an interface / same subnet as an other interface ; overlap issue.

My router doesn't supports VRF, I will subnet the /16 mask. Thank you for the answer, I learned something new today.
