Packet Tracer: Setting secondary ip address

active.hub2
Level 1
Level 1

I am using version 7.2.0.0226.  I am trying to set secondary ip address.  I tried multilayer switches and routers available in the given components.  Setting primary ip is not a problem.  But when I try to set a secondary IP address, it gives error.

Switch(config-if)#ip add
Switch(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.18 255.255.255.240
Switch(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.34 255.255.255.240 secondary
                                                          ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Router(config)#int vlan 2
Router(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.18 255.255.255.240
Router(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.34 255.255.255.240 ?
  <cr>
Router(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.34 255.255.255.240 secondary
                                                          ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Can someone please help suggest a network component in which I can set both primary and secondary IP address.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

it is a limitation in Packet Tracer. The featured devices do not run the full IOS, but rather a subset of commands, which lets you do a lot of things, but not all. Some commands are simply not available.

PT is just a Simulator software not real IOS, not all commands/features are working or possible. and some technologies may behave a bit different then in real IOS. For some advanced stuff you need real gear.
