Ping Command Success

In simple network as below

Sw1----------R1-----------Sw2

Sw1 switch1 is connected with Sw2 switch through a R1 router. Suddenly Sw2 path broken but Sw1 getting Ping command successfully. Want to know the reason why is getting successful ping as path is broken. Please your answer is appreciable.

Can you show the config for the two layer 3 router interfaces, and the layer 3 configuration on each switch relating to the layer 3 path.

Actually it is a question which was asked by an interviewer. I don't have particular config for the same.

may be you are getting reply from router; and not from Sw2; saying no access to sw2
