Hello all,
I have 2 branch locations connected to HeadOffice through MPLS VPN,
HO Router has one connection to internet and one connection to the MPLS cloud,
The Br Off accessing internet through HO,
Head office connection to MPLS clould is 1M
Br office Contn to MPLS cloud is 128K
The users at Br office having very low speed when accessing internet.
The MPLS provider told us to configure Qos,
Since I am new to QoS please help me to implement the QoS
Pls find the attached HO Router and Br Router Configurations.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not so sure QoS will solve your problem.
Since your branch office users have a 128k connection to the MPLS cloud and access the internet through the HO the best they're ever going to get is a 128k connection to the internet, regardless of the connection speed the HO has to the internet or the MPLS cloud. QoS marking would ensure that internet traffic to or from the BO is guaranteed at least a portion of that 128k connection, but it's still only a 128k connection and will be slow.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for your reply,
The MPLS provider said, if we apply the QoS, the speed will be more,
And in the branch users are less than 10.

Hi,
I agree with Greg.
To quote from the Cisco QoS Enterprise SRND, "QoS is a system of managed unfairness and as such almost always bears political and organizational repercussions when implemented."
By default only 75% of bandwidth is available for use. The remaining 25% is reserved for routing protocols, layer 2 overhead etc, see below
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk39/tk48/technologies_tech_note09186a00800fe2c1.shtml
If for example you carve out 50% of your bandwidth just for just web traffic then that will leave only 48K for all other applications, eg mail, backups of servers across the link, VOIP, file shares, etc, etc.....
It would therefore be worthwhile getting management sign off first before making this change.

Hi Guys,
If I were you I would ask MPLS provider that where I need to apply QOS. If you want to try QOS please do the following steps.
1. Make a call to MPLS provider to prepare MPLS Traffic Engineering for WEB traffic(http, https)
2. If they can do it for you then do what they ask for. You may need to do marking packets(QOS) on the both side(HQ&Branch) for web traffic. Finally , MPLS cloud will give a high priority to forward web traffic for you free of charge. (grin)
3. I wouldn't do QOS on the router facing the internet. Because no one can help me do QOS on the internet cloud. However, you can do QOS for outbound traffic. It would helps you some.
In short , what you can do is increasing the speed in MPLS cloud.
HTH,
Toshi

QoS is congestion avoidance/management mechanism and not a mechanism to increase bandwidth. QoS is only prioritization not increase which are 2 totally different things. so my question would be are you maxing out the 128Kbps bandwidth of you branch office?

Hi Gerald,
yes, I want to maxing out the 128K for the branch,
The branch users are accessing a Server at HeadOffice and Internet also.
