No.

1. Which is the preffered one if the ios release has ED/GD/MD ?

I prefer the latest IOS. But that's just me.

GD means General Deployment.

ED means Engineering Deployment.  This means IOS was developed to support a hardware.

MD means Maintainance Deployment.  IOS was developed to fix a bug.

I'd go for GD or MD.

Hi,

As Leo stated , the 2921 won't support 12.x IOS because it is an ISR G2 and these new platforms only support 15.x IOS because of the licensing feature not supported by IOS 12.x

Alain

I believe ED releases get bug fixes but MD releases have longer release life.
