Resetting to Factory Default Settings

Hi Guys..

I was given a 877 ADSL Router and asked to reset for the factory default settings. My understanding is to copy the default factory configs into this router. Help me if I am wrong.

I d’t have the username and password to get into the router. Is there any way or procedure to get into the router to know what configs the router holds.

Hi Rajesh.

The following link describes how to perform password recovery on the 877:

Once you've done that, log back into the router and then issue the following command:

erase startup-config

Reload the router after that (don't save the config if it asks you to). You will then up with the factory-default config for the router.

I could't enter into the Rommon mode. I tried using Break key and also tired using ctrl+Break with in 60 secs after restarting the router. All the time it gets into the normal config router mode. Can you tell me how to get into the Rommon mode and what key to be used.

What terminal emulation software are you using ?

Also, could you power off the router, wait 5 seconds, turn it back on and then try the Ctrl-Break sequence again within 60 seocnds ?

I am using the ordinary windows Hyper Terminal to configure the router. Very long back I have tried resetting the password and it worked well. But now I am facing problems. Any how let me try and let you know how it goes.

Hi Guys,

Finally my I fixed my issue. Cisco 877 ADSL Router comes with a reset button which I never knew earlier. When I hit the reset button within 60 sec of switching on , the old configs ware erased and came to factory default setting.

After a while i thought of playing by changing the registiry settings from the router config mode to know what happens.

Anyhow thanks for helping me guys...

i have the same problem, but reset buton dont solve my problem.

i can't acess trought tcp to 10.10.10.1 (which is the default), and by serial i cant get connection.

Can you help me?
