Hi,

Perhaps this will be of help:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk36/technologies_configuration_example09186a008014f8e7.shtml

Quoting the URL above, "Reverse Telnet allows you to establish a Telnet connection out on the same device you telnet from, but on a different interface."

In the above example it's used on terminal servers to connect to the console ports of devices connected via async ports using the loopback interface and pre-defined ports.

Please correct me if im wrong.

Thanks

Hi just to add a bit more..

Reverse telnet can be used to connect to any device which does not have a console port but it is connected to .. lets say a cisco router by a serial connection or by an internal port in the case of a IPS module on a cat 6500.

Hope it helps !!!

Thanx for the Info. It really helped.

Reverse telnet is a feature that allows you to telnet to a Cisco device and then connect to a third device through an asynchronous serial connection; this configuration is often referred to as providing 'console server' functionality

for connected devices such as hosts and router/switches as a form of out-of-band (OOB) management. For more information on reverse telnet, consult the following documents:
