Hi,

right-to-use means, that you have to buy a license, but it is not needed to be installed.

The first router has a security license, the second router has an ipbase license.
This document explains it for ISR G2: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/cloud-systems-management/software-activation-on-integrated-services-routers-isr/white_paper_c11_556985.html#_Toc244488674

Regards, Torsten

Hello @mcselltor ,

But if I buy a device that come with a pre-installed license. I didn't have to make any installation and the feature set will be active. What could I know that is a permanent (PAK based) or RTU license? A pre-installated license can be a PAK based license?

I do not understand what you are asking. Certainly if you buy a device that has an already installed license then the features of that license will remain active. The output of show version should show whether it is a purchased license or a RTU license. So what is your question?

Hello @Richard Burts ,

The @mcselltor said that "right-to-use means, that you have to buy a license, but it is not needed to be installed." If I buy a device that has an already installed license, this license can be a permanent (PAK based) license? According to text, if I didn't make installation, this is necessary a RTU license?

This is possible identify if a license is permanent (PAK based) or RTU on quote? Per example, if I quote a license SL-4330-SEC-K9=, it is a PAK or RTU license?
