RV042 keeps rebooting every minute

We have a number of RV042 units deployed in the field and several of them are rebooting every minute or so.  It started a few days ago.  There was a thread about this issue that I was watching but it's suddenly not accessible anymore.

Could someone let me know what's going on with this.

Thanks

suggestion only is : ( do you see any obnormal logs ?)

1. if any new firmware is an available upgrade to fix any issues.

2. take the config backup, restore to the factory and restore a backup and observe.

still have an issue opening an SMB tac case.

Thanks but this doesn't appear to be an isolated incident.  It seems to be a widespread issue as we've had multiple units doing this at different clients, all at the same time.  Plus there was other forum posts indicating the same thing was happening for them.  I also find it peculiar that the larger forum post about this problem is suddenly not accessible as well.

I can not shed much light on why a post that was describing the issue you are interested in is not longer available but I will observe that sometimes posts are withdrawn by the original poster and we usually do not know why.

So if that post is no longer available, and if you do not find any other posts that are helpful then you need to concentrate on your own issue. I believe that @balaji.bandi has made some good suggestions. If you check the logs of some of the devices having issues are there any unusual logs? If you could connect to one of these devices having the problem (especially if you could connect to the console) you could monitor logs in real time (and if on the console you could observe the boot process which might provide helpful details). Additional thoughts about this are if you do show version what does it say about the last reload reason? If you check in the flash are there any crashinfo files?

You might also think about whether there have been recent changes that might relate to the problem. The obvious possibility is recent updates to code. But there might be some other possibilities to consider: have there been any changes in the operating environment? Perhaps some service that the RV042 needs that is selectively no longer available?

I also think the mention of firmware is interesting. Is it possible that some of your RV042 are running versions of code different that other RV042? And if so is there any correlation between version of code and experiencing reloads? And whether or not there are differences in code running in your network, for the RV042 experiencing the issue are there versions of code that are more recent that what is running in the field? If so I suggest updating the code on a couple of your RV042 and see if that makes any difference.

And the possibility of a TAC case is always something to consider.

I appreciate all your input, and taking the time to respond.  But as I said it's a widespread issue so nothing specific to the setup of my routers in particular.  That other thread has resurfaced now and Cisco is acknowledging it's a major issue with the RV042.

https://community.cisco.com/t5/small-business-routers/cisco-rv042-router-automatically-restart-every-1-minutes/td-p/4709239

"Please note this is currently a major issue with the RV042. There have been multiple customers and businesses affected and the issue has been elevated to Cisco Small Business Support next level escalation team. Once we have any solution and/or workaround will let all know."

Thanks for the update. Interesting that the discussion is again available and that it acknowledges it to be a widespread issue. While you wait for a software fix I wonder if loading an older version of the software might provide some stability?

@Martin Aleksandrov Thank you for the update about the announcement. I note that the announcement focuses on a vulnerability with remote access. I do not see how that relates to an issue where the devices reboots frequently. Can you shed any light on the rebooting issue?

@Martin Aleksandrov

Thanks for the update/advisory. I agree with @Richard Burts that this does not seem related to the problem of the RV042 models rebooting every 60 seconds.

But based on this:

--> Cisco has not released and will not release software updates to address the vulnerabilities described in this advisory. Cisco Small Business RV016, RV042, RV042G, and RV082 Routers have entered the end-of-life process. Customers are advised to refer to the end-of-life notices for these products

Can it be assumed that the issue is not being addressed ? Are customers currently running RV042 routers being offered a free, equivalent replacement model ? If I were the owner of Cisco (which I am not) that is what I would do.
