I have set my router for remote management but no matter what I try I cannot connect to it remotely! However if I use my second WAN port (WAN2) with a different external IP address (we have two providors) I can connect. Any ideas?

Matt,

Do you have one router connecting 2 WANs(ISPs)? Are you trying to manage the router via wan interfaces? Is this router connecting to the internet via 2 WANs?

Would you please post a "show ip route" command on this router?

Toshi

I have one router and two WAN connections, I just want to failover to the second WAN port if the first fails.

The first WAN port connects to a comcast modem and internet etc works fine but I cant remote into the Linksys router..

Matt,

You try to connect the primary wan. It works. Right?

Toshi

I use the primary WAN for outgoing internet etc and it works fine. However I cannot remote manage the the primary WAN IP address even though the router is configured to allow it.

Matt,

To be honest,I'm familiar with this device.

Are you trying to manage this device via http or telnet or https or other port?

Let's say the public ip address you are trying to connect is a.b.c.d.

First of all, I want to make sure that the port is opened and the path is good.

From your computer:

PC_CommandPromt#telnet a.b.c.d

Such as

PC_CommandPromt#telnet a.b.c.d 80

PC_CommandPromt#telnet a.b.c.d 443

PC_CommandPromt#telnet a.b.c.d 8080

Please let me know what the result is.

nothing happened just went back to command prompt. I am trying to manage it via http from a firefox browser.

odd thing is I cant even ping the external IP address either. could it be comcast blocking the request somehow? the second IP on WAN2 is a different provider, CBeyond and if I switch to WAN2 it can be remotely managed!?!

Matt,

I have questions in mind. RV082 has 2 Wans and they are assigned with public ip addresses. You've allowed any firewall or any security policies to access from these 2 WANs on RV082. You said that when you connect to this device from the other ISP you can. In case 2 WANs are UP how RV082 installs a default route. Does it have 2 default routes pointing 2 ISPs? If yes, In case I want to manage RV082 from the outside world the device will route me back to which ISP. If RV082 can know that I came from which ISP and can route me back correctly. You have to get back to check your configuration on RV082 again. If everything's fine, and you have a doubt in mind with comcast box, let's check it real quick. In short You have to successfully ping RV082 from the WAN you can't manage first.
