folks
i have hp servers with teamed cards and they appear to be fault tolerant rather than load-balance
i'm intent on trying etherchannels on 4 ports as i asume they do load-balance
the switch is a 4506 and the commands, i think are
channel-group 5 mode on
is this viable or can anyone see a potential problem
thanks to anyone taking the time to reply

I would recommend doing it the following way.
int range xx - yy
channel-protocol lacp
channel-group 5 mode desirable
speed xx
duplex xx
LACP is an IEEE standard and it's very likely HP supports it. Mode on is good if you are positive the ethechannel will come up. If you even have the slighest of doubt, then go with LACP that way even if etherchannel doesn't come up your network isn't disrupted. Also, hardcode the duplex/speed on both the switchport and server side.
Hope that helps.

Actually, the lacp keyword is "active." "Desirable" is used with PAgP.

True, thanks for pointing that out.
That's what happens when you type commands bypassing the equipment.
