Hi,
Could anyone please explain the difference between the "Attainable Rate " & "Speed" parameeters obtained from "
show controllers vdsl 0".
Could you also advise me on any place where I could have an explanation on the output received from the above command.

Hi Sumundu,
As the names suggest, "Speed" is the value on which the line is trained with the ISP and "Attainable rate" is the maximum speed of the VDSL circuit. They will, in most condition, not equal but should be close enough like the following:
n3-ne-r-hi-435773-01#sh controller vdsl 0/1/0 | i Speed|Attainable Attainable Rate: 26216 kbits/s 1028 kbits/s Speed (kbps): 0 23613 0 1008
if you are seeing alot of difference then check the following:
- Is the Speed parameter showing the bandwidth for which you paid for ?
- Are you seeing any errors in 'show controller vdsl 0' output?

Hi Subeh,
Thank you very much for your response and it explains the output.
So, if the attainable rate is very much higher than the "speed", does that mean that the ISP has the capability to upgrade or provide a higher speed on this circuit than the current speed ?

Hi Sumundu,
It depends what speed you've subscribed to from the ISP. If you're not getting that value then you can first try upgrading the VDSL firmware and then contact the ISP to check the circuit.
