slow file transfers using SMB from Azure

Hi All

We are currently trailing cloud based services and file shares hosted in Azure and other platforms.

We are getting really slow performance when copying files and serving files to users using SMB etc.

The latency isn't too bad, 20-30ms to the data centre and we have plenty of bandwidth.

Any ideas why it is so slow? and are other people having these issues?

cheers

Hello

Without knowing your topology it would be hard to say, have you applied any network captures to/from the users so they can be analyzed.

Hi Paul

An example would be one of our remote offices,

Cisco L3 switch, checkpoint Firewall. 100Mbit internet connection, the Firewall has a VPN built to Azure.

I am going to look at captures this week.

Any ideas from the top of your head?

cheers

Hi,

Share your topology and Are you using any third-party VM on the Azure for Site to Site VPN? Is it slow only for File Sharing? What is the MTU setting?

how slow?

100Mbps isn't a fast link, and 20-30ms latency can be a problem for some TCP transmission.

Hi

It is slow to open and copy files etc, similar to been on a remote vpn, not a good experience for the users.

I think the mtu is 1400,

we are using the vpn from Azure that is built in.
