Smart Link Backup RV042G

Hello ,

I am writing to inquire about the feasibility of setting up a backup IPSEC VPN tunnel using WAN2 on two

 RV042G

routers. Currently, these routers are communicating via an IPSEC VPN tunnel established over WAN1. However, our client is interested in having a redundant setup using WAN2 as a backup.

I have a couple of questions regarding this setup:

  1. Feasibility of Backup IPSEC VPN Tunnel: Is it possible to configure the

    RV042G

routers to establish an IPSEC VPN tunnel over WAN2 as a backup connection? I noticed there's an option called "Smart Link Backup," and I'm wondering if this can be utilized for this purpose.

  2. Network Service Detection and Failover: Assuming it's possible to set up the backup IPSEC VPN tunnel, how does the router on WAN2 detect that the WAN1 interface on the router connected to WAN1 is down? I came across an option named "Network Service Detection." Could you provide insight into how this feature works and if it's recommended for achieving seamless failover between WAN1 and WAN2?

I greatly appreciate your expertise and assistance in clarifying these questions. Having a reliable backup VPN tunnel is essential for our client's network resilience, and I want to ensure that we implement the most effective solution.

Thank you

if the both the WAN Link terminating to same RV

how the smart Link work :

Smart Link Backup is a feature that allows the user to set up a second WAN in case the first one fails. This feature is used to assure that the communication between the WAN and the device is always continuous.
