SSH on 2801

Hi all,

I have three Cisco 2801 routers which I purchased second hand for doing labs for my certifications.

Now my R1 will allow SSH connection, but my other two will not.

I have tried troubleshooting as far as I can, but I cannot find the issue.

All three routers are running: (C2801-ADVSECURITYK9-M), Version 15.1(4)M12a, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

On startup I get this error message on R2 and R3:

Jan 2 12:00:41.815: %AAA-3-ACCT_LOW_MEM_UID_FAIL: AAA unable to create UID for incoming calls due to insufficient processor memory
Jan 2 12:00:41.815: %SYS-3-MGDTIMER: Uninitialized timer, root of linked subtree, timer = 65717B50. -Process= "Crypto WUI", ipl= 4, pid= 217
-Traceback= 6264334Cz 62B71374z 625D9E1Cz 625D9E00z

Here is the show run for all three routers:

I have noticed that R1 has revision 5, and R2 & R3 have revision 7... What does this mean? Also noticed that the non-working two routers have lower memory that R1, why is this if they are all 2801's and is there a way to add my own RAM modules to the chassis?

Thanks

Barry

Hello Barry,

revision usually stands for hardware version

R2 and R3 have half memory then R1 and this is likely the root cause of your issue because they complain of low memory on startup.

Look for Cisco memory chips for C2801 on ebay.

Installing non Cisco memory modules will cause the devices to be out of maintenance by Cisco. If any issue arise Cisco will not give tech support to your routers.

However, C2801 may be already in end of support.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

I believe C2801 is already end-of-life so I don't expect I'd get any support anyhouw. Thank you for your reply!

Get RAM stick on ebay.

what's minimum RAM requirement for IOS 15? I think it is 256MB.

I had few old ones and they came with IOS 12.4 and 128MB RAM, 64 Flash.  you could go back to ios 12.4

any progress ?

As I purchased the items under a year ago, I contacted the seller of the lab and explained the issue.

They're sending me 2x 512mb sticks to add. However I'm concerned because the 512mb is reportedly not compatible with my 2801s, and 256mb is max, but their technician is the one who suggested it so we'll see how it goes, failing that I'll send them back and ask them to send 256mb sticks.

You have to have a private key in order to us SSH; the simple way to do this is issue the ip http secure-server command. If you want to be a little more specific with a Self-Signed SSL you can follow the instructions listed here:

https://www.ciscozine.com/how-to-create-self-signed-certificates/

Cheers,

Sam
