Standby group configuration

Dear All,

I searched the forum and the internet but could not find an answer!

When looking at configuration examples from Cisco and third parties I keep on seeing the configuration of a group placed in a group > 0. Let's say that I configure a standby group in group 1 and maybe even a second one in group 2. I have NOT configured preempt in any of the two groups. What happens when I do the following:

standby preempt

OR

standby 0 preempt

  1. Is group 0 a seperate group? Conclusion: Preempt is only enabled for group 0 and not for group 1 and 2.
  2. Is group 0 a super-group? Conclusion: Preempt is enabled on group 0 and thus for all configured groups including group 1 and group 2.
  3. Is group 0 a group with some special properties other than beeing a super group?

Thanks!

Sean.

Hi,

group 0 is the default group so if you don't specify the group number it will be 0.

So standby preempt will be for group 0 which is not a super group but a normal group like the others .

if you want preemption for specific groups you must specify the group number in the command eg standby 1 preempt

Regards.

Alain.
