Static route configuration

Hi all,

In this link:

https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/blogs/vip-perspectives/2015/01/09/draft-routing-showdown-static-default-route-to-a-next-hop-ip-address-vs-an-exit-interface

https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/116711/static-routes-next-hop-exit-interface-or-ip-address

It shows that the best way to configure a static route to a next hop would be combining the exit interface and the next hop IP.

My follow up question would be if you have configured HSRP on the next-hops, do you configure a static route to the exit interface and still point to the HSRP IP as the next hop IP?

Cheers,

It makes no difference in how you configure a static route whether the next hop is an HSRP virtual address or is an IP assigned to the physical interface. The answer is the same whether it is HSRP or physical interface - if the outbound interface is an Ethernet type interface then it is much better to specify the next hop address. And if you care which interface it will use for outbound then you combine specifying next hop with specifying outbound interface.
