Hello,
Is it possible to configure a static route with a next-hop IP that is not in your routing table or does not exist in the network at all?
For example - ip route 10.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 1.1.1.1
Thanks!

Hello
AFAIK you can configure it, but since the next hop is not in the RT the static will not be in RT either.
Can you please write a little more about your scenario?

What if you configured it with a next-hop of null0, does the router inject it to its routing table?
I could try this now if I had a lab setup.

Hi;
To install the route the next-hop should be reachable. If you put the dummy next-hop which is not reachable will never install route in routing table.
With reference to null0 route, it will drop all the traffic for specific destination.
Thanks & Best regards;

So a static route pointing to null0 will still be installed in the routing table, right?
